Something Old and Something New

I have been spending this past week trying to finish some projects that have been sitting in my basket.  I finished my daughter’s fingerless gloves that she had wanted.  She picked the colorway BFF from Miss Babs and it suits her so well.  I am also almost finished with the niece’s sweater for her birthday.  I just have one more sleeve to go.  I’ve also started the Clockwork scarf by Steven West.  I love the colors even though they are a bit out of my comfort colors.  Yesterday, two more of our chickens started to lay eggs so that makes five.  We are still waiting for two more.  It is like a holiday when we find a new egg.  They have been an amazing addition to the family.  We are soaking up the last few weeks of summer.  Today’s plan is the boardwalk and tomorrow the beach!

One of our chickens (an Ameraucana) has been laying eggs for about two weeks now and I’ve been impatiently waiting for the others to start.  Monday our Welsummer began laying and yesterday our Buff Orpington laid her first egg.  It was so exciting.  The kids are already trying to decide what color eggs they want for breakfast.  We are still waiting for the other four, but it should be soon.  This past week there hasn’t been much knitting because my daughter finished her summer program and we’ve been doing some things that we weren’t able to do before.  There will be many beach days in our future.  I began my second sock and I’m about half way through.  I really love the color and it’ll be perfect for the Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival.  I’m still reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.  I am taking the lessons learned in the book and putting them into practice.  There is still a long way to go as far as going through the house, but I already see results.  I think I’ve even inspired my mother-in-law to start going through her clothes.  I will be soaking up these final weeks of summer, but I am looking forward to Autumn.

Going Ginny!

Finally Finished

I am finally finished with the Atlantis shawl that I started in the beginning of July for the Miss Babs Tour.  It was an easy project for the summer.  I can’t wait to get my next project next month and since Fall is my favorite season I really can’t wait to see what color the yarn will be.  I took a sock class at Arrow Acres recently and completed my first sock and it fits!  I am reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up on my Kindle.  I have taken her idea of starting with organizing and getting rid of clothes.  When I was done, it was embarrassing how many clothes I had.  I’m not sure where they were hiding in my closet.  I lost count, but I think that I’ve donated more than 10 bags of clothes.  I made my husband go through his things too.  It made me feel liberated and now I know what I have, where everything is, and it’s so easy to put clothes away.  The closet looks empty, but I’m happy with that.
