I have a serious problem because all I want to knit on is socks. I’m not sure if it’s because they are small, quick, and mindless, but I want socks in every color. I am forcing myself to work on my Emiliana shawl so I can wear it soon, but the socks are calling my name. The Emiliana shawl is made out of O-wool that I purchased at Rhinebeck. The colorways are Pasture Rose and Gorge. I think the neutrals will work well with many outfits. Now onto the socks! Both socks are just vanilla socks because I wanted the colors of the yarn to shine. The blue/green sock is made of yarn that I received in a swap that was organized by Melody of the Mandarines podcast. My swap partner is from Nova Scotia and she sent me local yarn that is the color of the Nova Scotian tartan. The color is amazing! The yarn is from Fleece Artist and it’s so plump and round. I will definitely be getting more yarn from them. The other sock is made from yarn that I dyed called Nebula. It is on a stellina base and it’s one of my favorite colorways to dye.
I am still slowly working my way through the Making and Taproot magazines. I really like to take my time and read all of the articles. With the holidays I didn’t get much reading done because there were games to be played and cookies to be baked.
I have never been one to make New Year’s resolutions because I always see them as a set-up for failure. Resolutions can be so specific that one wrong move derails your goal. I recently saw on the By the Lakeside podcast, that Sandy was choosing a word that she can incorporate into her daily life as a gentle reminder of her goal. I really like the idea of having an overall theme for the year. I have been using this technique since the beginning of the year and so far it is working for me. My word is focus. I get very distracted because I want to do everything and then nothing gets done. I have been sitting down and making a schedule for myself and this also includes planning out dinners. Since I have started my small yarn business on Etsy, I feel like I haven’t been able to fully focus on it and it is definitely something that is important to me. I’m a stay-at-home mom now, I look around the house and see all of the things that need to be done. Again I get distracted. I’ve now scheduled time for the house, running errands, and my business while the kids are at school. Once the kids are home I focus on them because I’ve gotten the chores done that needed to get done. This has been really working out for me so far because I thrive on routine. I hope your goals for the new year are also going well. Now back to work!
